Is it possible not to be afraid of dying?
Maybe…
It’s because we forgot the time when we were born.
In truth, disappearing again is the natural state.
If you cut a planarian in half, which one is the real one?
Sometimes even the me from just a few minutes ago feels distant and unfamiliar.
Couldn’t we also look at ourselves as separated by time,
like the me from a moment ago and the me from a moment later?
Maybe the idea that there is a single, continuous “me”
is nothing more than an illusion.
People who believe in an afterlife might be less afraid of dying.
We don’t believe in it, though.
If science and technology advance far enough,
maybe we won’t have to die.
But even the universe itself won’t last forever.
You can postpone death,
but someday, inevitably, you have to face it once.

For me, that moment just happens to be now.
